Robinson Projection

The Robinson projection was created to show a flat view of the Globe while demonstrating a scaled size of the continents. This map was developed by Arthur H. Robinson in 1963. It was created to give the most accurate representation of what the Earth looks like. It was essentially created for the purpose of imagery, not direction. Due to the sizing of the map and giving it the best possible image, it stretched poles to longer points. It does not accurately dictate the lengths of oceans nor continents. Robinson says it was created from more of an artistic point of view - not mathmatic.

Pros:

  • Gives the most accurate image of the globe

  • Identifies topography

Cons:

  • Not scaled to accuracy

  • Elongated poles
