Gall-Peters Projection
The Gall-Peters projection was created in 1855 by James Gall. It is most commonly used today in United Nations school systems. The map is not very accurate as the distortion in the map causes high latitute countries to be scaled larger than they actually are. Most countries are stretched pole to pole - specifically ones intercepted by the equator. The Gall-Peters is often compared to the Mercator projection map. The Mercator map projects the Northern-most countries larger and the Gall-Peters projects the Southern-most countries larger. Both maps have become outdated.
Pros:
-
Most preceive the globe in the way this map projects
-
It is commonly used by United Naitons countries
Cons:
-
Distorts the size of countries to fit the common preception of the globe
-
It too, has became less relevant
